IN MEMORIUM

"Living EMPOWERED and changing MY world."
Valerie E. Fletcher
1963 – 2002
VOPA unexpectedly lost our co-founder, vice president, and friend on August 10, 2022.
The daughter of an active duty Air Force Officer and self-described 'military brat,' Val spent her formative years living on military bases and knew firsthand the challenges and sacrifices of veterans and their families.
Val's calling was to improve people's lives, especially those who couldn't help themselves. She was driven to be a voice for struggling individuals and to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
A courageous woman with strong convictions, Val believed "God has your back," and relied on her faith to get things done. For over 30 years, she influenced countless lives by serving those in need within her community, holding various roles such as crisis intervention worker, intensive in-home family therapist, child grief specialist, and volunteer coordinator, to name a few. Val brought compassion and commitment to the individuals she served and believed in empowering people to make a difference in their communities.
VOPA's Board of Directors will endeavor to honor Val's memory as we complete our mission to combat homelessness among Veterans by providing support and services needed to promote an empowered life filled with strength and purpose. We know she will be encouraging us in spirit.
