JoAnn Tresco

JoAnn Tresco is a Sergeant Major (retired) with 34 years of service in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. She retired in 2014 from the 28th Infantry Division Judge Advocate General Corps where she ended her military career as a Senior Paralegal NCOIC. She attended Basic Training in 1980 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, in the first female/male integrated basic training class at that installation.

​While serving in the PAARNG in an M-Day capacity, she pursued a successful civilian career as a senior paralegal, a law office manager and then the Legal Studies Division Chair at Central Pennsylvania College where she taught and directed three academic programs for 17 years. She earned two Associate Degrees in Legal Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from Penn State University.

​In 2002 she went on active duty with the Guard, serving with SFOR XII in Bosnia Herzgovenia and then a combat tour in Iraq in 2009 with the 28th Combat Aviation Brigade.

She is an avid Weight Watchers leader and ballroom dancer. Her story of reintegration is published in three resilience books, one of which is a U.S. Army reintegration medical manual.

​She currently is employed as a Federal Contractor for the Service Member and Family Support Service branch of the PA Army National Guard as the Alcohol & Drug Control Officer. She is also the owner and operator of PA DanceSport Ballroom in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a veteran owned business, where she employs six teachers of dance, one of which is a veteran.
